The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) is proud to launch its medicine scholarship in honour of His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, as a tribute to his contributions to the advancement of healthcare and health education in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Since being appointed as the first Commander of the Bahrain Defence Force Royal Medical Services (BDF) in 1978, His Excellency has worked tirelessly to promote healthcare excellence and education, including in his roles as Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society.
As part of RCSI Bahrains latest five-year Strategic Plan, the University is focusing on three strategic pillars of Teaching and Learning; Research; and Community Engagement and Service. His Excellency has been an advocate and a champion of a series of initiatives and activities across all three pillars.
In recognition of these efforts, RCSI Bahrain is delighted to award this scholarship annually to a Bahraini student who meets the entry criteria for the undergraduate medicine programme.
His Excellency, Shaikh Mohammed, expressed his thanks to RCSI Bahrain and emphasised the importance of its programme preparing medical students for life as a healthcare professional.
Speaking on the launch of this initiative, RCSI Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom said it was an honour for the University to name a scholarship for medicine after His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed and thanked His Excellency and the Supreme Council for Health for their contribution in the healthcare field and ongoing guidance.
NHRA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Maryam Al Jalahma, hailed His Excellencys devotion to improving the health sector in Bahrain especially with his efforts as President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society, in supporting those suffering from diabetes and continuing to raise awareness on the prevalent issue.
RCSI Chief Executive Officer/Registrar, Professor Cathal Kelly, joined in supporting this initiative and thanked His Excellency for his constant support to further enhancing educational opportunities across Bahrain.
