The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) played host to its annual Community Engagement Kick-off event at the University campus in Busaiteen.

The event, an induction for new volunteers, kicked off with a welcome message by Community Outreach Manager, Victoria Ham, followed by a speech by RCSI Bahrain’s Professor and Head of Surgery and King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) Chief of Staff, Professor Martin Corbally, highlighting the importance of altruism as future healthcare professionals. Existing volunteers also took the opportunity to speak about their experience as Community Engagement volunteers.

The volunteer programme offers individuals the opportunity to represent the University by participating in internal and external Community Engagement initiatives, both nationally and internationally.

Established in 2012, RCSI Bahrain’s Community Engagement team has clocked in over 4000 volunteer hours through supporting the needs of communities and participating in health awareness and education activities.

With Community Engagement and Service being one of three strategic pillars of RCSI Bahrain – along with Research and Teaching and Learning – the University is committed to to establishing collaborative partnerships with communities both in Bahrain and further afield.

RCSI Bahrain is a constituent university of RCSI, which was established in Dublin, Ireland in 1784. Licensed as an independent private university, RCSI Bahrain is a not-for-profit health sciences institution focused on education and research to drive positive change in all areas of human health worldwide.
