The Chancellor of the National University of Ireland (NUI), Dr Maurice Manning presented two prestigious awards to one medical student and one recent graduate of RCSI Bahrain.
Medical Student, Mr Yusuf Al Alwan received 2nd prize in the Dr H H Stewart Medical Scholarships in Paediatrics.??Dr Hiba Omar Mohamed, who graduated in June 2014, received 3rd prize in the Dr H H Stewart Medical Scholarship in Surgery 2014.
Since its foundation, the National University of Ireland has sought through its awards to identify and honour the brightest minds and talents across the diverse NUI community.
Its the first time that an RCSI Bahrain student/graduate has qualified for these awards.
RCSI Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom congratulated the students on the their achievement.
The NUI awards include prestigious Fellowships and Travelling Studentships in the Humanities and Sciences (including Medicine) as well as numerous scholarships and prizes in a wide range of subject areas. These awards are open to NUI graduates and undergraduate students in the NUI Constituent Universities and Recognised Colleges, which includes RCSI Bahrain.
The largest group of awards are the Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Scholarships and Prizes. Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart was himself a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland obtaining his licence in 1829. First established in 1888 following a bequest from the estate of Dr H H Stewart, these awards were continued by NUI on its foundation in 1908.
