The RCSI Bahrain men and women football teams competed in a tournament on May 6th at the Bahrain Rugby Club. The six a side football tournament was in support of a Bahrain charity. Under the title Kick for a Cause: fight diabetes 2011 and organised by the Rotary Club of Manama, 30 men and women teams from clubs, associations, business, universities and schools from across the country participated.
Both our teams received very difficult draws but the aim was to have fun and raise money for a good cause, part of the universitys commitment to community involvement. Special mention by RCSI Bahrains Sports Coordinator, Mr. Scott Frankum included: Abdulrahman Al-Shafei, whom returned to the pitch for the mens team injured, managed to ignite the entire team. For the womans team Sana was without a doubt one of the most skilled players in the whole tournament and was the offensive force for RCSI Bahrain while the defense was lead by Fatima and Noor.
The six a side football tournament has been the signature fund raising event for the Rotary Club of Manama and the money raised from both sponsors and participating teams amounts to approximately BD 25,000
